PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Nicola Jacobsen —

Here, Principal Nicola Jacobsen shares her thoughts.

Kia ora,

This week the Deputy Principals and myself spent some time in the Year 7 classes looking at how the students are settling into their classes, and how they are going with their learning. It was great to see in action what the school’s professional learning focus has been since the start of the year on establishing a positive and learning-focused classroom environment. On Thursday afternoon I had the tough task of helping to judge the Year 7 wearable arts projects - 12 of which will be showcased at the A&P Show next week. The projects had to be about part of New Zealand history they had a personal connection to, or interest in. Well done to all the students involved and the student MCs who hosted the event.

Over the next few weeks there are a number of events happening at the College. On Wednesday 8th there is a ‘meet the teacher’ night for students in Years 7 and 8, Athletics Day is Friday 10th, and the following week we have Learning Conversations on Tuesday 14th March. You should have received an email from the College about each of these events.

This week at our school assembly the Head Students and I spoke to our junior students about how we are all responsible for creating and maintaining a safe school environment. Our Deans, Whanau Teachers, class and subject teachers, Guidance Team - all staff - are here to help and support. We love to help solve small problems - please get in touch with our Deans if you have any concerns so that we can follow up and provide support.

Toitū te whenua, toitū te tangata

The land is strong, the people are fulfilled.

Ngā mihi,

Nicola Jacobsen
