STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Mount Aspiring College —

Here we celebrate student achievement and showcase activities our students are involved in around college.

In April this year, a group of MAC students successfully participated in the first EPro8 Challenge held here in Wānaka. Inspired by this event and its positive outcome, two teams made it to the finals and came second and fourth, the students were keen to get one of the construction kits used in the challenge for our college to be able to keep engineering, problem solving and innovating in our EPro8 lunchtime club at MAC.

Although the kit is already subsidised, we still had to fundraise $900 to purchase this kit. Luckily, we have found a parent who was willing to take on this fundraising challenge with his two daughters who both participated in the EPro8 challenge earlier this year.

So, on Saturday (26 August) Craig Smith and his daughters Olivia and Mackenzie ran the first of two Sausage Sizzle fundraisers at the Mitre10 BBQ here in Wānaka. After 5 hours of cooking and preparing well over 100 delicious sausages with caramelised onions and the choice of three different sauces, the girls and their proud dad had raised an impressive $453 towards our EPro8 construction kit already. Many customers mentioned that such a delicious sausage was just what they needed to cheer them up after the Springboks inflicted the heaviest ever defeat on the All Blacks that morning.

Olivia and Mackenzie and their Dad now plan a second BBQ fundraiser on Sunday17 September from 10.00am, again at the BBQ in front of the Mitre10 Wānaka, to raise the rest of the money for the EPro8 kit. So come along to enjoy a delicious sausage and help us reach the target of $900.

A big thank you goes to: Craig Smith for organising the entire fundraiser, Olivia and Mackenzie for volunteering their time to cook and prepare all those sausages, Mitre10 and New World Three Parks for their very generous sponsorship of the event, Jess (Smith family's dog) for attracting lots of customers.
