As part of the New Zealand Health and Physical Education curriculum, we cover age-appropriate sexuality education through a unit of work called Navigating the Journey. Through Term Two, Year 7 to Year 10 students will be participating in this programme. Each week, an overview of the forthcoming lessons will be available here.

WEEKS 2 AND 3: NAVIGATING THE JOURNEY

YEAR 7

Who Am I? Ko Wai Au?: Students will explore how their rights and responsibilities increase as they get older. Identify their current responsibilities and prepare for those they will have in the future. Identify rights and responsibilities in given situations.

Week 3: Understanding gender and stereotypes. Be able to identify gender stereotypes and their impacts in peoples' sense of identity. Discuss strategies to challenge gender stereotypes that they can use. Be able to define sex, gender and stereotypes.

YEAR 8

Week 3: Identify how social messages about gender can affect peoples' experiences of becoming an adult. Examine cultural attitudes towards gender diversity. Contribute to the development of policies that support diversity of gender and sexual identities and inclusion of all.
