PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dean Sheppard —

Here Acting Principal Dean Sheppard shares his thoughts.

Kia ora and welcome to the Mount Aspiring College newsletter.

It's been a bit of a whirlwind here this week with the change to alert level 2. I do want to take a moment to commend our staff and students for the way in which you have seamlessly transitioned to social distancing, contact tracing and increased hygiene measures. Well done!

I would also like to mention our Year 12 and 13 cohort - thank you for your impeccable conduct last Saturday night at the formal, a wonderful event for all involved. Thank you also to Sharon Arlidge, the formal committee and all of our sponsors who made this a fantastic evening.

Last week I spoke about respect - and as I made my way around the campus these past few days I have been pleased to see an increased level of respect being shown to both teachers and our facilities - as well as the uniform being worn correctly. Speaking of uniform - next week we will be focusing on shoes. There is no prescribed style or material for shoes or sandals but they must be flat and totally plain black – black soles, sides, laces, stitching, and no coloured logos or ankle boots. Shoes must be worn with the prescribed uniform socks (or opaque black tights for girls in winter).

Following on from respect, today I would like to touch on attitude. Our SOAR values describe attitude as conscientious, diligent, enthusiastic, determined and one that others look up to. As a student of MAC, you are an ambassador for the college whether that be at home, in the sporting arena, or in the community. I would encourage you to hold these values in your mind, and remember that your attitude now will play a big part in determining your success later.

That’s it from me for now - have a great weekend!

Nga mihi

Dean Sheppard
