ADVENTURE RACING
In October MAC will run its first Adventure Race Championships. This is a great opportunity for all of our students to experience adventure racing in a fun format in their own backyard.
The event runs for three hours for Years 7 to 9 students and six hours for students in Years 10 to 13 and involves three disciplines: foot (walk or run), bike and paddle. In Term 3 we will offer training and learning opportunities in preparation for the race.
So gather your team and register! If you can’t find a team, please register as an individual and our sports department will help find you a team.
For more information and to register please see this link: MAC Adventure Race Champs
We want to thank Mark Watson, Adam Fairmaid, and Bob and Cat McLachlan for helping to develop this fun event and for volunteering to share their amazing knowledge and experience with us - we are so lucky!
SPORTS RESULTS
NETBALL
During the holidays the 9A and 10A netball teams travelled to Christchurch to compete in the South Island Secondary Schools Junior Netball tournament. They were joined by 94 other Year 9 and 10 teams from around the South Island in the three day competition.
The 9A team hit the courts running and with consistently strong performances they worked their way into the top sixteen and then the top eight. They faced tough competition in the quarter finals coming up against St Andrews College (the eventual winners of the competition), but they worked hard in very closely fought playoffs to end the tournament in 8th position. It was an outstanding result from this talented team and huge thanks must go to their coach and manager - Megan Beale and Maree Lange, for all of their hard work this season.
The 10A team had a tough road to the tournament as they were plagued with injuries and player illness in the lead up to Christchurch. However, their hard work during the season came to fruition and they played some great netball. A tough pool meant they were relegated to the bottom 16 teams after the first day, but the team worked hard and ended the tournament in 20th place out of the 32 teams in the Year 10 competition. This was a very valiant effort from a fabulous group of Year 10 students and their coach and management duo of Lydia McRae and Jo Jones - you should all be very proud.
FOOTBALL
During the holidays 25 of our budding Year 7-10 football players attended the Christchurch International Cup tournament with the Wānaka Football Club.
Ten of our Year 7/8 students competed in the 12th grade with 20 other teams from all across New Zealand. They ended up 3rd overall, and were the only team from the South Island to make the semi-finals, which is a fantastic achievement! The students in the team were: Lucas Simpson, George Murray, Charlie Whipp, Harper Norman, Levi Eastwood, Iz Letcher, Blake Lindner, Mason Wisbey, Josh Fielding, Luke Evans and Ben Wisbey as coach.
A team was also entered in the 14th grade. Fifteen students from across Years 8-10 were in this team. They were one of 16 teams from across all of New Zealand and ended up 13th overall. The students in the team were: Connor Eley, Cooper Norman, Harry Smitheram, Kio Haines, Logan Jolly, Luca Perkins, Martin Dvoracek, Mia Gemmell, Michael McConnell, Quinn Barron, Ryan Keenan, Sam Irvine, Zack Adams-Biggs, Zander Birkby and George Murray.
