SPORTS RESULTS

Karate

MAC year 7 student, Ryan Enoka, won both of the Premier Gold medals in the Southland Otago karate championships in Queenstown which was held over Labour weekend.
He competed in the 12-13 year old boys premier division taking out Kata and Kumite with convincing wins.
The Otago Southland competition is the last tournament of the year with athletes from throughout the South Island competing.

SPORT DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Sport Central is hosting a range of sport development opportunities leading up to Christmas to support coaches, groups, and organisations in the Wanaka area.

Getting Started in Coaching
Wednesday 6 November | 7.30 – 8.45pm | Wanaka Recreation Centre
An opportunity to give those new to coaching some support and tips. Grant Milne, Coach Lead from Sport Otago will be presenting this course. As an accomplished coach, Grant will cover topics such as; Why people participate in sport; Game Sense Approach; Safety; Planning; Coaching Practical; and Sideline Behaviour.

Leadership in Sport
Wednesday 13 & 20 November, 4 & 11 December | 7.00-9.00pm | Wanaka Recreation Centre
The success of sport and recreation in New Zealand depends on great leadership and better collaboration within the sporting sector. Puna - the Sport and Recreation Leadership Framework - offers a range of resources including workbooks that provide ideas and inspiration, reflective questions, and practical ideas and suggestions to help develop leadership capability. These sessions will be working through the framework with attendees, as a group.

Coaches Club – Teaching a Skill
Thursday 21 November | 7.00-8.30pm | Wanaka Recreation Centre
Presented by Cameron Stanley, Head Coach from the Wanaka Swim Club, this session focuses on how to teach sport skills effectively and draws on Cameron’s experience in both sport and music, and the similarities of both. There will be a presentation followed by a practical observation session at the Wanaka Pool.

Following on from the highly successful first speaker series held in September the second Gallaway Cook Allan Sports Speaker Series Presented by the Upper Clutha Sports Community Trust is based on the feedback we received from the audience of our first event. The second series topic is : "The Tipping Point – Finding Balance"

Speakers:

  • Val Burke (Exercise Physiologist & Endurance Coach,
  • Ashley Light (High Performance Director & Sports Psychologist),
  • Third Speaker TBC but will be nutrition based.

Topic: Our speakers will discuss how to find balance in all aspects of your sport; training, nutritional and mental skills. Whether you are a recreational sports person, the parent of an athlete, a coach or a high performance athlete yourself our speakers will share valuable knowledge that can be applied across both your sporting life and your everyday life.
