SPORTS RESULTS

ATHLETICS

Pictured above, first time OSS athletics competitors, U14 boys, Cameron Armstrong, Ryan Enoka and Cody Gemmell.

Fourteen MAC track and field athletes competed in the Otago Secondary School Athletics Champs last weekend at the Caledonian track in Dunedin. There were some superb performances with four event records broken by our athletes.

Top three placings went to:

Ryan Enoka: 3rd - U14 boys discus
Cody Gemmell: 2nd - U14 boys javelin
Chantel Thurston: 1st - U14 girls 400m, 3rd U14 girls 100m
Amaya East: 1st - U14 girls 800m
Millie East: 1st - U15 girls 400m, 2nd U15 girls 100m
Estelle Gellatly: 1st - U15 girls 200m, 3rd U15 girls 100m
Niamh Townsend: 1st - U16 girls 100m, 1st U16 girls 200m
Amelia Young: 1st - U16 girls discus, 2nd U16 girls shot put
Georgie Bruce: 2nd - Senior girls 100m, 2nd Senior girls 200m, 2nd Senior girls discus
Abby Fisher: 1st - Senior girls 100m, 1st Senior girls 200m
Hannah Prosser: 1st - Senior girls 3000m, 1st Senior girls 1500m
Ryan Young: 1st - Senior boys long jump, 3rd Senior boys Triple jump

Otago secondary school records were broken by:
Hannah Prosser: Senior girls 3000m - broke the record by 23 seconds.
Millie East: U15 girls 400m - broke the record by 0.01 seconds.
Senior girls 4 x 100m relay team of Millie East, Abby Fisher, Estelle Gellatly and Niamh Townsend: broke the record by 0.37 seconds)
Senior girls 4 x 400m relay team of Niamh Townsend, Georgie Bruce, Estelle Gellatly and Millie East: broke the record by 0.1 seconds

Also of interest are the near record performances of:
Abby Fisher in the Senior girls 200m - missed the record by only 0.01s
Chantel Thurston in the U14 girls 400m - missed the record by only 0.1s

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The Skoda South Island School MTB championships were held last weekend in Methven. Four Mount Aspiring College students attended the event.

Morgan Antone: 3rd place - Downhill U 17 girls, 6th place - Enduro U17 girls

Emily Schmidt: 6th place - Enduro U16 girls

Tarn Currie: 6th place - Cross Country U14 boys, 20th place - Enduro U14 boys

Campbell Appel: 29th place - Enduro U16 boys, 25th place - Cross Country U16 boys

Well done everyone and thank you to the parents who helped with marshalling over the weekend. 


SPORTS NOTICES

BASKETBALL

A practice / information session for the senior basketball boys will be held on Monday 29 March from 6.00 - 7.00 pm at the MAC gym.

Trials for the senior boys A team will be held on Thursday 8 and 15 April from 6.00 - 7.00 pm at the MAC gym.

STUDENT COACHING WORKSHOP 

Come and join our interactive workshops for secondary school students and teachers, who coach and are interested in coaching. Gain expertise from guest speakers.

Topics covered include: planning the season and a session, coaching a skill, athlete-centred coaching, ACC, sport-specific coaching.

When and Where: Cromwell College, Thursday 15 April, 9.00am - 3.00pm

Cost: $10 per student.

Please wear sportswear and bring a pen and a notebook. Please come to the SportsHub to sign up.
