MUFTI-DAY

Thank you to everyone who contributed to mufti-day today raising funds for Cyclone recovery in the North Island, and thanks to the Service Committee for organising this.

FURTHER INFORMATION ON BOOKING LEARNING CONVERSATIONS

All parents and caregivers will have received an email this week with information on how to book Learning Conversations.  If you have any technical problems, please get in touch with Dean Sheppard on sheppardd@mtaspiring.school.nz.  Learning Conversations are held with your child's whanau teacher and not the class teacher (there will be an opportunity to meet your child's teachers next term).  The letter you have been emailed details your child's whanau teacher, but please note that the first letter of the code beside the whanau teacher's name relates to the house your child is in.  When looking for the teacher to book, please disregard this first letter (house code), eg. PCEH book with CEH (Hamish Crosbie).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NCEA STUDENTS

Key Reminders:

Some key reminders for students about NCEA and the valid and fair management of our assessments at MAC:

  • Get your work in by the deadline date. Extensions are not a right.

  • Don’t plagiarize or copy others work (online or friends or AI).

  • Don’t take time off to finish internal work - be organized (fairness).

  • You have the right to appeal a grade within reason - talk to your teacher or the head of learning area.

  • Keep track of your progress - particularly around literacy and numeracy and in UE approved subjects in Y13.

  • Be organized and communicate well with teachers.

How to pass NCEA:

  • Level One: 80 credits which include 10 literacy and 10 numeracy credits. Literacy credits can come from English and many other subjects. Students who sat and passed the literacy or numeracy pilot in 2022 or this year will have those credits counted for NCEA and for the literacy and/or numeracy requirements in 2023.

    • In order to gain an excellence endorsement 50 excellence credits are required. A merit endorsement requires 50 merit or excellence credits at or above the level.

    • A course endorsement in a particular subject requires 14 merit or excellence credits including at least three credits from an external assessment (excluding PE). Credits must be earned in the same calendar year for a course endorsement.

  • Level Two: 60 credits from Level Two plus 20 from another level. Level One literacy and Numeracy. Endorsements are the same rules as for Level One.

  • Level Three: 60 creditsfrom Level Three plus 20 from Level Two or better. Level One literacy and Numeracy. Endorsements are the same rules as for Level One.

  • University Entrance: See here for full details, but the key points are:

    • Level Three

    • Three UE approved subject passes of at least 14 credits total.

    • Level one Numeracy

    • Level two literacy (requires 5 approved reading credits and 5 approved writing credits.

Contact Ms Ashton if you have any major issues.

HPV VACCINATION PROGRAMME

Thank you to all those parents who have already returned the completed HPV form. An email has been sent home to parents of students who still need to return this form. A reminder that all forms need to be completed, even if you are not giving consent for the vaccination. No student will be vaccinated without their parent/caregiver’s consent.

The HPV vaccination is also available free of charge through your practice nurse or doctor up to their 26th birthday. Delaying the vaccine may mean your child needs more injections to be protected, as people aged 15 years and older need three injections.

The first round of the vaccination will be delivered on Monday 13 March.

For any further information please phone the Public Health Nurse for your school, or look up www.health.govt.nz/hpv

COLLEGE FUNDRAISER

An adventure town deserves an adventure playground at school.

Quality, well designed playgrounds mean students who are physically and mentally healthier, with minds prepared for learning.

Help 'Parents and Friends of MAC' raise funds for a new adventure playground for students. If every student contributed $67, there could be a new adventure playground available next year! We know that’s not possible for all, so we’ll be fundraising and applying for grants. Please help if you can - either by visiting our "Givealittle" page https://givealittle.co.nz/org/mount-aspiring-college , or if you would like to donate directly to the school bank account: Westpac, Wanaka, MAC Board of Trustees 03-1739-0027820-00 Ref: playground.

If you are interested in getting involved with 'Parents and Friends of MAC', please register your details in the form linked on our website.
