COMING UP THIS WEEK:

The MAC Enduro Mountain Bike Champs are being held on Thursday 23 February at Bike Glendhu. Entries have closed for this event as we have reached our full capacity. This year we have twice as many riders competing in the event as we did last year - which is awesome! Good luck to everyone who is competing and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who have offered to help us run the event. SPORTS RESULTS

Equestrian

Last weekend was a busy one for some of our MAC equestrian riders.

Omakau A&P Show

Heidi Kendrick in year 10, competed in an adult class and won Reserve Champion Novice Riding Horse and Champion Horse Rider. This is a massive achievement for Heidi against much more experienced riders.

Bella Edwards in year 11, competed in Hack Showjumping and won jumping at 90cm, and was 3rd at jumping 1.10m. In the show ring: in Working Hack Hunter she was the Reserve Champion. In Saddle Hunter Novice she also received Reserve Champion and she also 1st in Novice Hack Round the Ring. A great success all round in Showjumping and in the Show-ring for Bella.

Abbie Cameron-Small in Year 8, achieved first place for Best Turn Out Pony and Rider in the show ring. She also received 1st in Best Paced and Mannered and 2nd for Best Rider, achieving Reserve Champion in section A. She was 3rd in Pony Club Class for Bareback riding and 3rd in the Obstacle Challenge. She rode Clear in Showjumping at heights 50cm and 65cm. It was her first attempt in the Hunter Class jumping at 80cm, but she missed out on a clear round due to three refusals. It was a very successful weekend on her new Pony 'Got the Giggles'.

Bailey Blackmore in year 7 riding Kennebrook Christmas Magic, had a great show and as always demonstrated confidence and kindness. In the show-ring she won Reserve Champion in Section B Novice Show Pony. Bailey also had personal success in show jumping, jumping in Hunter Class at 80cm (which is commonly known as 'Round the Ring') for the first time with two clear rounds. Bailey has real potential and we all look forward to seeing her future successes.

New Zealand National, held in Christchurch

Sophie Fountain in year 10 competed riding 'Just Lucky'. This competition was held over three days and there were five rounds of show jumping: A, B, C, D and E. After her first round (A) Sophie Fountain was sitting in last position amongst 30 other riders. She made a massive comeback, riding clear rounds in every other round (B, C, D and E), placing first in B and C. They were the only combination to ride clear in every round and came away with 5th overall in New Zealand. What a fantastic result for a young rider!
