MAC SPORTS

Sports Co-ordinator —

Here are current and upcoming sports notices and events.

We’d like to welcome our new Head of Sport, Ignacio Sande to our team at MAC.

For Ignacio, sport has been a passion since his early years.

“I strongly believe that sport can be a vehicle for individual and community development,” he explains.

“The Head of Sport role really motivates me as I see it as an opportunity to increase and enhance opportunities for Mount Aspiring College's rangatahi to meaningfully engage in sport and active recreation.”

Ignacio completed a Bachelor in Physical Education in Uruguay and masters degrees in Spain, one in high performance and talent development and another one in team sports. For the past two decades, Ignacio has worked in the sport sector in Uruguay, Spain and New Zealand in different roles, including as a PE teacher, trainer, coach, and manager - supporting young people, as well as coaches, volunteers and clubs - to achieve their potential in and through sport and physical activity.

Ignacio says he is looking forward to supporting MAC whānau and using sports and active recreation as a platform to improve students' wellbeing.

“I have seen how sport can enhance young people’s mana, develop their leadership skills, grow their confidence, develop their character, and strengthen their interpersonal and community connections.

“I'm also looking forward to meeting our MAC whānau and understanding how we can better support students, staff, parents and volunteers to provide positive experiences in sport for everyone.”

Outside of work, Ignacio enjoys exploring the wonderful backyard that is New Zealand while biking, running and tramping. He recently started skiing and is really looking forward to continuing to learn to ski this season.
