FAREWELL AND GOODLUCK

Mount Aspiring College —

Goodbye and good luck to these valued members of staff leaving us this year

Today we give our thanks and say farewell to several staff members for their service to the college:

  • Ruby Cave in Year 7
  • Sonia Williams in Guidance
  • Florence Micoud, Librarian
  • Chris Waugh in English
  • Karyn Munro, Head of Guidance
  • Jane Newell in HQ
  • Erin Hurley in Year 8
  • Jenny McDougall in HQ
  • Clare Easterbrook, International Manager

Throughout what has been a turbulent year we would like to thank you wholeheartedly for your contribution to our college community. “There comes a time in life where you must choose to turn the page, write another book or simply close it” - Anon. So as you move on with your next chapter, from all of us here at MAC, we wish you the very best.

A special mention must go to Clare Easterbrook, Chris Waugh, Florence Micoud and Karyn Munro, four of our longest serving members of staff.

Clare Easterbrook has been with us for 17 years as the head of our International Language Centre. A bright whirlwind of energy, her effervescence has been felt by all across the school. She's the reason so many of our global students have lived in, and loved Wanaka and why we have seen many siblings of former students attend MAC as well. Throughout her time here she has been an impressive advocate for the college, a welcoming colleague and a friend to many. We wish her the very best in her next endeavours.

Chris Waugh leaves us after 15 years in the english department (barring a stint away in the UK to further his teaching at the London Nautical School). His dedication, innovation and commitment to teaching excellence have been a constant at MAC - while his passion for bringing out the best in his students has always shone through. Chris has made a significant impact on this school, and will leave behind a legacy of change. We wish him all the very best in his new role at Christ's College.

Karyn Munro will leave us after an extraordinary 28 year career as Head of Guidance. During her service to the college she has been involved in all facets of the school community, including teaching and student leadership. She has played an integral role in the fabric of MAC and in times of crisis has lead the school with cool head and a calm direction. Karyn has touched thousands of lives, and the amount of ex-students that remain in touch or come back to visit are testament to her skill and empathy as a counsellor. We wish her all the very best as she starts a new role in the health sector.

Florence Micoud leaves after 16 years as our librarian. A silent achiever, she has exuded a steady, calming influence over the library. During her time at the school Florence has inspired a love of reading in staff and students alike and taken great care to foster lasting positive relationships with books. Her passions have extended to conservation, and she has been a key leader of the 'Team Green' group - driving initiatives such as reusable food wrap classes and a school drain clean-up. We wish her the very best as she starts her own business.
