LSM UPDATE

Tēnā koutou whanau, parents and caregivers

I just wanted to provide you with an update on the developments within my scope.

Firstly, I would like to reiterate that Ian, Dean and I, along with the rest of the Board, are working well together. There is a real sense that we are working as a team, in the best interests of the college. I would also like to thank staff for their ongoing dedication and professionalism.

Recruitment of Principal

At the end of the month we will start advertising for the permanent Principal. We are advertising through a number of channels locally, nationally and overseas. I will share the advertisement with you once it is finalised so you can also distribute it as you see fit.

Applications will close at the end of September. We will be interviewing during October and looking to make an appointment mid-October. The successful candidate will ideally commence at the end of Term 4, 2020, but at the latest be in place for the start of Term 1 2021.

I have put together an appointment panel which includes myself, Ian, Bridget Legnavsky, Ed Nepia and a Principal (yet to be sourced). We will conduct the initial selection process and interview a short list. From that we will identify the preferred candidates for a second interview. The preferred candidates will be interviewed by the full Board. While it is my role as employer to make the final decision, I will be making that decision in consultation with the full Board.

Action Plan

Working in collaboration with Ian and Dean we transformed the “Outcomes Plan” into a living “Action Plan”. We have already made tangible progress, and I would specifically like to thank Dean, the Senior Leadership Team and staff for the work they have done. It's fair to say that Ian has approached his role with rigour and vigour and has also made significant progress. One of the completed actions that I would draw your attention to is that I have put in place a Performance Appraisal Agreement for the Acting Principal.

I have attached a copy of the Action Plan for your information. My role is to make sure that we progress the Action Plan and I will provide a monthly report to the Ministry on our progress. I will also endeavour to keep the school community up to date with our progress.

Communications Committee

I have governance oversight over communications, so have set up a Communications Committee to assist me in this role and to develop some tangible plans and actions. The members are Mark Sinclair, Georgina Wadsworth, Ian and Dean.

We are developing two plans:

- Internal Communications and Staff Engagement Plan

- External Communication and Community Engagement Plan

Georgina is also developing a Communications Guide for staff.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with the progress we are making. I thank you for your ongoing support of the College.

E tu Kahikatea,

hei wakapae ururoa

Awhi mai, awhi atu, tatou, tatou e.

Kahikatea stand together; their roots intertwine strengthening each other.

We all help one another and together we will be strong.

Kind regards,

Madeleine Hawkesby, Limited Statutory Manager
