The games were fast paced and full of action and our three teams improved vastly over the course of the day. We finished on a high with our three teams finishing in 1st, 3rd and 5th place. Huge thanks to Neil Stuart and Lydia McRae for their help with the teams.

MINISTOCK RACING

Cooper Arkell (Year 10) has been racing in at Central Motor Speedway (Cromwell Speedway) for nearly two years. He is racing a Youth Ministock – which is a category just for teenagers aged 12-17 years old. The cars get up to 80-90kph and races are typically 10 laps long. Youth Ministocks is used as a stepping stone into other speedway and motor racing categories.

This year Cooper has had some great results. The first race of the season he got second overall with some very close racing. Two weeks ago, that competitive racing continued with Cooper getting two second placings, and a first which gave him the overall win for the night. He also won the 'Driver of the night' award. This prize is awarded to the driver who races fair and clean and shows respect for other drivers while still being competitive.

Last weekend was another night of really close and exciting racing with the lead swapping many times between Cooper and another Cromwell driver, with Cooper eventually coming out second overall after gaining another two second placings, and a first for the night. Congratulations Cooper. We look forward to watching your progress over the next few years!
