SPORTS NOTICES

After School Ball Skills

For anyone interested in joining there is an after school club focusing on 'Ball Skills'. This will run on Thursdays from 3.30 - 4.30pm starting in week 3.  The range of games will include tchoukball, football, korfball, netball, turbo touch and rippa rugby. Come along and have some fun, develop friendships and advance your skills. For further information please speak with Mrs Cameron-Small.

MAC SKI & SNOWBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS

MAC Ski & Snowboard Championships will be held Wednesday 26 August at Cardrona Alpine Resort.

This is a single day annual competition to encourage students to come up and enjoy their local mountain. It includes Banked Slalom (BSL) followed by a Gravity-cross (GSX) race. Students complete a slow speed slip inspection then a single timed race run on the Banked Slalom course in the morning. This time determines the BSL results and ranks racers for the afternoon gravity cross race. The MAC Champs includes individual and inter-house team results awarded at the school.

Entry

The entry fee is $30 and must be paid to Mount Aspiring College with a completed entry form. A waiver form must also be signed prior to collecting competitor bibs. Cardrona will NOT charge a bib deposit however bibs that are not returned will be invoiced to Mount Aspiring College. Competitors can collect a discounted lift pass for $50. There will be a discounted Event Parent Pass available to purchase on the day.

Event Registration and Bib Allocation

Competitor bibs will be collected from 7am – 8.30am on the competition day at the event registration desk in the Slopeside ticket office. Please ensure all team managers collect all bibs and lift passes between these times.

Banked Slalom (BSL)

9.20am Volunteers briefing top of course

9.30am Competitor briefing (everyone), top of course

9.35am Slip inspection for Ski Girls, Snowboard Girls and Snowboard Boys

10.45am Ski Girls, Snowboard Girls and Snowboard Boys timed run

11.15am Slip inspection for Ski Boys

11.25pm Ski Boys timed run

Gravity Cross (GSX)

12:30pm Results and Heats posted at the top of the course

1pm Start of elimination rounds. The largest divisions will start first.

1st and 2nd place only advance. 3rd and 4th are eliminated

1pm – 3pm Elimination Rounds, Semi-finals, Small Finals, Finals

Note: Ski and Snowboard-cross is a 4-person, first-to- the- finish elimination race. Racers MUST stop at the finish to confirm their place and to find out if they advance. Racers eliminated should return their bib at the finish. Only competitors with bibs will be permitted to access an event lane set up at Whitestar chairlift. Please do NOT use the ski school lane.

Awards

Individual results will be provided to MAC and awards will be presented at the school assembly

SOUTH ISLAND ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS 
This event will be held in Blenheim from 29 - 31 August and will include the following events: Individual Time Trial incorporating the South Island ITT Titles and National ITT Titles, Criterium, Hill Climb incorporating the National Hill Climb Titles, Road Race incorporating the South Island RR Titles and Team Time Trial incorporating the South Island TTT Titles

Categories (age as at 31 December 2020):

Individual Races: U20, U17, U16, U15, U14, U13 boys and girls

Teams Race: Senior (U20), Junior (U16) and Year 7 & 8

The size of team for Team Time trials is:

U20: 5 riders with time taken on the 4th rider (4 to finish)

U16 and Y7&8: 4 riders with time taken on 3rd rider (3 to finish)

OTAGO SECONDARY SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS

Athletics Otago are also hosting the NZ Club Cross Country in September so the club champs on Sunday 9 August are being used as a ‘test run’ for the NZ Champs and now Secondary Schools can be a part of it! OTAGO / SOUTHLAND SS ROAD CYCLING CHAMPS

The Otago/Southland Secondary Schools Road Cycling Championship has been rescheduled for Friday 4 September. The events available are road race, individual time trial and team time trial (4 people). Entries close on Friday 28 August.
