ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Newsletter Editor —

Here we celebrate student achievement and showcase activities our students are involved in around college.

YEAR 7 TRIP TO ARROWTOWN MUSEUM

Some of our Year 7's had a class trip to the Arrowtown Museum last week. Students had the opportunity to experience a Victorian classroom, explore the Chinese settlement village and exhibits. This was part of their learning on historical events in New Zealand in preparation for producing a wearable arts costume.

Our Year 7 students also completed an orienteering course on Lismore Park as part of their Maths unit on Position and Orientation.

STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY

The Students in the Community (SIC) programme has started off with a bang! We have already had a large number of our YEAR 13's out and about giving back to our Upper Clutha community over a range of different organisations. Many were out in force at Challenge Wanaka in the weekend, assisting at aid stations, transition areas, marshalling, carparking and in the water, ensuring the athletes stay safe and hydrated and adding to the awesome atmosphere.

The Students in the Community programme is all about giving back to our community, but it is up to the students to decide what that means to them. It is always great to see where students want to volunteer and the variety of organisations which benefit. A month in and we have already had students volunteer with DOC, at sports events, with music groups and at kids charity events. I look forward to seeing who else within our community will benefit this year.

If you are part of an organisation that requires volunteers, please get in touch via sic@mtaspiring.school.nz
