GOLF

On 12 September, Golf NZ is holding a golf competition at Dunstan Golf Club for Years 7 and 8 students. This is a new concept developed by Golf Otago to provide opportunities for young people to give golf a go.

FORMAT: This will be an Ambrose tournament, with teams of 4 playing nine holes. Each team must have at least 1 set of clubs, and either a parent or teacher will walk with each group. The organisers would like for each student to have some golfing background, such as a handicap or experience playing golf with their family and friends.

If your child is in Year 7 and 8 and is interested in participating in this competition, please complete this form by Monday 28 August: Year 7 and 8 Golf Competition Registration Form

MAC ADVENTURE RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS

In October MAC will run its first Adventure Race Championships. This is a great opportunity for all of our students to experience adventure racing in a fun format in their own backyard.

The event runs for three hours for Years 7 to 9 students and six hours for students in Years 10 to 13 and involves three disciplines: foot (walk or run), bike and paddle. In Term 3 we will offer training and learning opportunities in preparation for the race.

So gather your team and register! If you can’t find a team, please register as an individual and our sports department will help find you a team.

For more information and to register please see this link: MAC Adventure Race Champs

We want to thank Mark Watson, Adam Fairmaid, and Bob and Cat McLachlan for helping to develop this fun event and for volunteering to share their amazing knowledge and experience with us - we are so lucky!

WAKATIPU EXCHANGE

Last Thursday 160 MAC students headed to Wakatipu High School to compete in the annual MAC vs Wakatipu High School Exchange. The Wakatipu Exchange was originally started so that the school A teams who were competing in Winter Tournament Week at the end of August could have an extra game in preparation. It has since grown to include the A, B, 10A and 9A netball teams, the 1st XV, U15 and Girls rugby, the Senior A boys and girls volleyball teams, the 1st XV boys and girls football teams, the Junior boys football team, the Senior A and Junior A girls and boys basketball teams and also this year rock climbing was introduced for the first time.

This year MAC faced some very strong Wakatipu teams and we came away second best, having to hand over the trophy which we won last year. There were some outstanding performances, especially from our A and B netball teams and also from the 1st XI Boys Football team and the Junior Boys Football team who all had convincing wins. We want to say a huge thank you to the coaches of our sports teams who came over to Wakatipu for the day, to the teachers who supported the teams and also to Wakatipu High School for organising such a fabulous event. We look forward to hosting it again next year!

CROSS COUNTRY

The MAC Cross Country was held in Lismore Park on Wednesday this week. The students trained for this annual event in their PE classes all term, so it was great to put their practice into action. We struck it lucky with a beautiful day and perfect conditions for the event, and it was great to see the students out on the course supporting each other and running to gain house points.
