SPORTS UNIFORMS

Please return any sports uniforms (shirts, jackets, singlets etc) before Monday 9 December.  Uniforms not returned by this date will incur a replacement fee of $65. Clean  uniforms can be returned to the Sports Hub office during school hours.

TRIATHLON

Entries for the 2025 Challenge Wānaka Intermediate Triathlon are now open for our Mount Aspiring College students.

Entries close Monday 2 December 2024, so read through the information below and complete the form to confirm your child's entry.  Local students are required to do this early registration to assist the organisers with planning, due to the high demand for the event. It also allows the students time to prepare over the summer months for the race if they are keen to train. 

Event information:

When: Friday 14 February 2025

Where: The Challenge is returning to Wānaka township for 2025 with the race based in and around Pembroke Park.

Who: The Intermediate Challenge is open to all children in years 7 / 8.  You can sign up as a team of two or three and take on the challenge together, or participate as an individual entry.  Please note: If you register as a team of two, one person will be required to complete two disciplines.

Distances: 200m Swim, 6km Bike, 3km Run  

Cost: $25 per person.  This covers the entry fee and teacher relief.  This will be charged to your child's school account in February 2025.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY:  Skill sessions with Aaron Callaghan

Another fun afternoon on Wednesday working on tackling technique - great to see so many of our players keen to upskill and develop areas of their game.  Azza’s final skill session with our MAC rugby students this term will be:

  • 4 December - focusing on: breakdown / contact skills

This session will take place on the school rugby field,  starting at 3.30pm and run for approximately 45 minutes.  Great for anyone who wants to brush up on basic rugby skills, hasn’t played for a while and/or knows that there is a technical difficulty in this specific area.


NETBALL

The Mt Aspiring Netball club is on the lookout for coaches, assistant coaches , managers, and interested parties for teams from Year 7 to Year 13.

Whether you’re an experienced coach or just passionate about the sport and eager to pass on your knowledge, we need YOU to help guide the next generation of netball talent.

ATHLETICS

Our MAC Senior athletes Phoebe Laker, Cody Armstrong and  Matthew Botting and Junior athletes Vienna Harley, Lillian Lake and Eve Pfahlert had another great weekend at a regional competition in Dunedin last weekend. You can read more on the Wanaka App at  Otago Sprint Records Tumble Again

GOLF

Year 7/8 Golfers at the Central Intermediate Golf FInals in Lawrence. Tama Chaney, Charlie Whipp, Aidan de Jong, Frank McSweeney, Lachie Manson, Toby Hartnell, Jimmy Rowley.

7 Year 7 and 8 students qualified and were invited to play the finals of the Central Intermediate Golf Tournament in Lawrence last week.  It was a tough ask for one team having only 3 players, however, they made it work and all had an awesome time regardless.  A big thanks to Sam Mason and Anna Rowley for transporting the students to Lawrence.

ORIENTEERING

Forty Year 7 and 8 MAC students participated in the Orienteering - Central Otago Primary School Championships at Jardine Park in Queenstown last Friday.  Having been postponed the day before due to rain, the sun shone for those students who worked their way around a course finding checkpoints on the way. Ollie Wright, Cody Sherwin and Parker Collins took out 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings for the Boys Upper Clutha Year 7 and 8.  Paige Boomsma placed 6th and Jade Mclachlan 10th for the Girls Upper Clutha Year 7 and 8.  Congratulations to all as it was a great day out!  Thank you to Liz McHugh and Caroline Heathorn for volunteering to help on the day.

ADVENTURE RACE

MAC was invited to send 2 teams to the Southland Junior Adventure Racing Champs on Wednesday to navigate their way around a fun and challenging course at Sandy Point, Invercargill. Our year 9 teams joined over 400 students who got to test themselves on the course designed to challenge participants with a series of outdoor activities such as orienteering, running, cycling, and team-building exercises. It was an epic day by all accounts! Thanks for the invitation Southland Triathlon and Multi Sport Club.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS SHOWJUMPING

Congratulations to our MAC equestrians who competed at the Secondary Interschool Showjumping Championships held in Gore earlier this month. 


Out of the ten teams entered in the event, Mount Aspiring College’s Team Blue placed fifth, and our Team White placed sixth. 


Our students also achieved individual placings in the top six within their heights:
