SPORTS RESULTS

NETBALL

The Mount Aspiring College 9A and 10A netball teams have had a busy and promising start to their season. They are playing in the inaugural Central Lakes competition which sees them travelling around the region to face different school teams. The opportunity to play against school-age teams, rather than playing in the adult-grade Wānaka tournament, is giving them valuable game experience as they prepare to head to the Otago Secondary School Tournament in Dunedin on 11/12 June, followed by a trip to Christchurch in July for the Junior South Island Secondary Schools tournament. The teams are busy fundraising to help cover their travel costs this season and they are very lucky to have amazing support from volunteer coaches and managers and their parents.

RUGBY

The MAC Under 14 team is off to a good start with three wins from four games. The team has a mix of Years 9 and 10 boys, many who have played together in the younger grades, along with a number of boys who are relatively new to the game or are playing their first season. Last weekend the team was on the road for the third week in a row, this time travelling to Balclutha. The team got off to a slow start and were quickly behind on the scoreboard, so it was great to see them stick to their team values, show some grit, and game plan to pull back the deficit. Once the boys were warmed up and had their legs fully working, they took control of the game and ran in some great tries, resulting in a 45–15 win.

ADAPTED SPORTS

Last week we had an inclusive session with Parafed Otago and Halberg Trust where our students got to experience Wheelchair Basketball and Adapted Games. This opportunity provides our Year 11 Physical Education students completing the Level 1 PE Pilot Programme with unique material to apply to their External Assessments reflecting on how Hauora relates to physical activity in Aotearoa.

RIPPA RUGBY

On Thursday, three Year 7 and 8 Rippa Rugby teams headed to Queenstown to compete in the Central Otago Rippa Rugby Tournament. These teams have been training hard all term and they couldn’t wait to hit the field. They struck it lucky for a beautiful day in a week of heavy rain and played some outstanding games. The Red and Blue teams battled hard and both teams narrowly missed out on the semi finals with Team Red ending up in 5th place and Team Blue in 8th place. The Yellow team fought hard to come away in 11th place. Huge thanks must go to Ms Robertson, Mr Kelly and Mr Ratcliffe for their awesome coaching and also to our fabulous senior student helpers - Kalan Nichol, Ben Hawkins and George Lister, who have given up their lunchtimes this term to help coach and ref - thank you!

BASKETBALL

Once again it has been a busy week out on the basketball court. The highlight of this week was a last minute win by the MAC Gold team against Wakatipu on Monday night! It was an awesome effort by this team to come from behind and steal the win. Great work girls!
