Arts Department —

Bravo to the students who performed at MACStock, our senior Box Theatre Drama students, and check out MAC Radio!

MACStock

Congratulations to all the students who performed at this year's MACStock which delivered an amazing showcase of the diverse musical skills of our students. Thanks, also, to everyone that came out and supported our students at this year’s events. We couldn’t run events like this without our wonderful audience. Finally, thank you to Deanna Gerlach for these photos from the event.

Heart Affairs

Bravo to the senior Box Theatre Drama students on a fabulous production last week of 'Heart Affairs', a series of scenes and one-act plays from New Zealand playwrights.

Audience feedback was wonderful with some commenting on how well they rose to the sophistication of the scenes. The cast certainly made our hearts sing with their passionate performances. Students demonstrated manaakitanga and whakawhanaungatanga at all stages of the process, navigating many challenges to get their work to the stage. The care and respect they showed for each other during show week was an absolute pleasure to witness. The Year 13 students are to be acknowledged for their last official performance to an audience, marking the nearing end of their time in senior drama. It has been a pleasure to work with them and a delight to watch their growth and development over their time in the classroom.

A huge thank you goes to Joanna Hewson-Williams for her work behind the scenes and in front of house as well as Oscar Searle for his lighting support and operations. A very special thank you to the fabulous Kathryn Liggins for supporting Event and Entertainment Technologies (EET) students in creating costumes for these plays. Her long-term association with the Drama department is truly treasured. Thank you to Ronnie Moffat and Craig Jeffries for supporting students in building set pieces. They have generously given time to mentor and advise students throughout the year and their contribution is hugely appreciated.

MAC RADIO NOW LIVE TO THE COMMUNITY!

MAC's student-led radio station MAC RADIO is now live to the community.

MAC Radio provides a platform for students to showcase their music, engage in creative broadcasting, and develop media production skills, and is a great way for students to learn about audio engineering, public speaking, content creation, and media management, while also fostering a sense of community.

The school radio station was set up by former MAC teacher Warren Judkins and has been revived after a period of inactivity following his departure. Year 11 student Toby Mills has been leading the revival, supported by a crew of senior music students who are helping to create content.

Students are involved in every aspect of production, from planning and recording to editing and broadcasting.

Any students who are interested in different roles – such as hosts, DJs, reporters, technicians, and producers – are encouraged to get involved.

MAC Radio broadcasts a variety of content including student-produced music played 24/7, live music events, recordings of public performances, interviews with students, staff and community members, MAC news updates, sports results, daily notices and other educational content.

Listeners can tune in to MAC Radio via: radio.mtaspiring.school.nz or traditional radio on frequency 88 FM (subject to change).

MAC invites people to contribute ideas, recordings, or feedback to help MAC Radio to grow and improve. For submissions and inquiries, please contact the college at: radio@mtaspiring.school.nz
