Sports Uniform Return
Please return clean sports uniforms and jackets to the Sports Hub as soon as possible.
We are beginning our uniform inventory, and having all items returned promptly will make the process much smoother. This will save us from needing to chase things up at the end of the year, and prevent charges being added to your account for unreturned items.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Sports results
We love to hear what our MAC students have been up to in the sporting arena. Please keep us up to date with any news at sports@mtaspiring.school.nz
Equestrian
Congratulations to students Boh Fairmaid (Year 7), Poppy Gray (Year 7) and Millie Simms (Year 8) who represented MAC at the Equestrian South Island Interschool Championships in Christchurch last month, winning the overall junior team award for the cross-discipline eventing. They also came second in the competitive trail riding discipline, and fourth in dressage.
This is an outstanding achievement at what is the South Island’s largest equestrian Interschools event, with 270 riders competing.
Despite competing against teams of six riders, the MAC team of three riders achieved consistent top-of-the-table finishes in most classes, meaning they finished well ahead of the second-placed team.
We would like to thank the team’s sponsor Andrew Simms of the Andrew Simms car dealership in Dunedin who kindly sponsored helmet covers, saddle pads, horse covers and browbands. Thanks also to the three mothers who supported the riders throughout the event.
Football
The MAC Girls XI Football retains its title as CO League Champions
Down 0–1 at half-time, Rhian and Ella combined to equalise with a shot following Ella’s corner, before Ella scored the winner from Rhian’s assist to make it 2–1. The team worked relentlessly, proving exactly why we deserve to keep hold of the trophy. A huge thank you to Barnes Metcalfe for stepping in to referee, and to the supporters who travelled to Cromwell to cheer us on. After a successful season, we sadly farewell our Year 13s from school football. The rest of the team looks forward to reuniting with Coach Ignacio next year!
Contributed report - XI Girls' Football Captain Rhian Telfer
A huge thank you to our dedicated coach, Ignacio Sande, for his leadership and commitment to the team. Special thanks also go to Dahlia Chroscinski for her valuable support throughout the season, and to Sarah Carlton for her ongoing help as a parent volunteer.
We are incredibly proud of this group of girls for their hard work, sportsmanship, and continued success - and they always have fun out there. Well done, team!
Netball
Each year at the South Island Secondary Schools' Netball Tournament, talented players and umpires are recognised. At this year’s event in Dunedin, MAC Year 13 student Claudia Paterson was one of only five students named on the list of Talent ID Umpires.
The tournament involves over 80 teams and more than 1200 players, coaches, managers and umpires, so to be recognised among this group is a remarkable achievement. Claudia’s recognition on the list meant she received additional support and training at the tournament.
Congratulations Claudia - We are lucky to have such talented student officials!
Winter Tournament Week 2025- Final report
Almost 70 MAC students travelled to destinations across the South Island last week to participate in this year’s School Sport New Zealand Winter Tournament.
