NETBALL

Last weekend, our Year 8A netball team competed in the Miller’s Flat Netball Tournament.  The team had a fantastic day on the court, playing some great netball in a very competitive competition and they came out on top, winning the Year 7/8 grade.  The team are also heading to the Koru Games in Christchurch at the end of term, so this was a great stepping stone in their build up to their pinnacle event.

SWIMMING

On Monday we took 49 Year 7/8 students to the Upper Clutha Primary Schools Swimming Championships at the Wānaka Recreation Centre.  It was great to see everyone back in the pool, as it has been a long time since our MAC Swimming Champs back in Term One, and we had some fantastic results.  Many students have now qualified to compete at the Central Otago Primary School Swimming Sports on the 3 September.

MAC Rugby Match Report

MAC Boys Seniors vs Otago Boys High School

Last Saturday, we travelled down to Dunedin to play Otago Boys Colts. Both teams were pretty light on numbers which meant we played a different style of Rugby. We changed the format to 11 aside and split the game into 15 minute quarters. This probably worked to our advantage, as a team some of our key strengths this season has been our fitness and speed.

During the duration of the 60 minutes, the score margin was very close at all times and we were unlucky to lose, with Otago Boys barely holding off at the end and winning 43-38. The try scorers for MAC were 3 tries for Cameron Armstrong, 1 for Jack Sides, 1 for Monty Field and 1 for Cameron Wilson. It was an unfortunate loss as it meant we missed out on a place in the semi-finals, however from a personal perspective, I was just happy to be playing Rugby last weekend.

Thanks to our coaches Lincoln and Julian who travelled with us down to Dunedin, and our manager Hayley for organising everything behind the scenes.  Special thanks to Arne Gawn for driving, and Cameron’s Aunty for providing great biscuits at half time.   Also, once again, a special thank you to Aaron Callaghan who has supported the team this year.

Jack Sides, MAC Seniors Captain

On Saturday MAC travelled down to Gore to play against Menzies College for a shot at a home semi-final. The game was incredibly close, however poor handling and ruck discipline meant it was difficult for us to capitalise on our opportunities and build pressure.

After the first half Menzies led 8-3, and we knew improving our discipline was going to be key heading into a successful finish to the game. A number of unforced handling errors and line-out mistakes became the defining staples of our performance, however our attack structure and first up tackles were outstanding and is something positive we can take forward for our semi this week against CSC in Winton this weekend.

The game finished with a score of 22-8, a try to Jackson Clark and penalty conversion to Tom Sides. Thanks to our coaches Wayne Enoka and Jason Clarke, and our manager Sally Soper. Special congratulations to Flynn Phillips who received his cap (20 games including 15 starts for First XV) - well deserved. Thanks to our supporters and sponsors.

Tom Sides, 1st XV Captain
