ART, MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE

Mount Aspiring College —

Here we celebrate everything to do with the arts, culture and performing arts.

PERFORMANCE - SHUDDER

Year 13 Box Theatre students presented powerful work on Tuesday and Wednesday night this week leaving a final mark in the performance room they have called “drama’ home for their time in theatre performance classes at MAC. Some joined just this year whilst others have strutted the boards since Year 7. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with such a dedicated passionate and gritty group of students most particularly this year when Covid19 completely changed our performance landscape. This ensemble work was a truly collaborative project where all students played a part in building the physicality of the work. Ollie Blyth composed and single-handedly played an original soundscape score. Their performance was supported technically by Olly Thomas completing his first ever sound technician role. This group are leaving as a powerful bunch of disciplined and empathetic humans ready to tackle their next exciting chapter. I sincerely thank them for their tireless efforts in the performing arts at Mount Aspiring College.

On behalf of the students, I would sincerely like to thank the school and wider school community for supporting them in their work and being an audience. Now more than ever it is important to keep theatre performance alive in order to bring communities together and help to navigate, process and find meaning in this complex world around us.

This competition normally takes place on the big stage every year celebrating storytelling through dance, drama and music. COVID19 forced the competition to go online which made for some incredible and unique film interpretations of this much loved student national competition.
