Kia ora,

To mark Neurodiversity Celebration Week we have a display in the library which celebrates all kinds of different minds. On display are non-fiction books about neurodiversity, fiction books with neurodivergent characters and a selection of our dyslexia friendly collection of books which use a special font, careful layout and spacing, and off-white, heavier paper to make reading easier.

The display also features famous people with different types of neurodivergence. Did you know that Ryan Gosling and Simone Biles have ADHD? Did you know that Jennifer Aniston and Bill Gates are dyslexic? Did you know that Billie Eilish and Lewis Capaldi have Tourette’s? Did you know that Daniel Radcliffe and Florence Welch are dyspraxic? Did you know that Greta Thunberg and Elon Musk are on the autism spectrum?

We also celebrated World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March with a display explaining this year’s theme of #EndTheStereotypes and colouring pages for students.

The eBooks available in our MAC eBook and eAudiobook collection have lots of features to support our neurodivergent learners including dyslexia friendly settings, Text to Speech, and simple image depiction of words. We also have a great selection of eAudiobooks.
