Peer Support programme with some of our Year 7 students by Mount Aspiring College

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Principal Nicola Jacobsen shares her thoughts.

Kia ora

Well done to our year 12 and 13 Peer Support leaders for running the Peer Support programme with our Year 7 students over the course of this term. Wednesday’s shared kai to mark the end of the programme was fantastic. The feedback from the Head Students, who are also Peer Support Leaders, is that they have really enjoyed getting to know the Year 7 students. It is a great way to spend time with people outside of one’s peer group and share experiences around friendships, peer pressure and finding your place at the kura.

Next term the Buddy Programme continues, with Years 12 and 13 students supporting junior students in class time. Well done to the Academic Committee and to Josh Moody, who has put a lot of time and effort into organising this programme.

The landscaping works are forging ahead, and yesterday the structure for the shade sails went up. It is great to see the area that had the old Administration Building being transformed into a great outdoor space for students. The project is on track to be completed for the start of Term 2.

It was great to see a number of parents at last night’s Parent Teacher interviews, and to also have the Wānaka Concert Society at school for their Subscribers Concert. The students performed a range of pieces from classical to jazz, and took concert goers on a tour of the music and performance facilities. I would like to thank the Wānaka Concert Society for their very generous donation of a new piano - it was lovely to hear it being played by students at last night’s concert. Thanks to Mat Doyle, Nikki Cotter, Johanna Hansen and Helen Carter for organising the concert and supporting the students.
