FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Principal Nicola Jacobsen shares her thoughts.

Kia ora

Athletics Day this week was a fantastic day. It was great to see the overall levels of participation, students supporting each other in events, and great school spirit. Thanks to the volunteers from Sport Central, the Athletics Club and parent volunteers, as well as the MAC staff for the organisation of the event. The Sports Committee did a great job helping to set up for the day. It was great to see the level of competition and participation on the day.

At this week’s assemblies the Head Students gave some really powerful messages about our collective responsibility to be a safe school, which align with our school values of tikanga, aroha and manaakitanga. They spoke about peer pressure, bullying, and online safety. Peer pressure is an interesting one - often it is a negative thing, but at times, positive peer pressure can be something that provides encouragement. For example, study groups, encouragement to participate in events and the like.

The Head Students also talked about support when faced with challenges, and where to go to for help:

  • Peer Supporters, Head Students, House Leaders, Committee Leaders and members are all here to help.

  • Youth Workers - 24/7 and Kahu Youth

  • Teachers - whānau, homeroom and subject/class teacher

  • We have a team of Guidance Counsellors.

  • Deans, Deputy Principals and the Principal.

The message is, we are all here to help.

Toitū te whenua, toitū te tangata.

The land is strong, the people are fulfilled.
