Good luck to the students heading off around the South Island to compete for the college in rowing, touch, sailing, mountain biking, and a triathlon over the next week!

Term 1 is a busy term with lots of fun sports events on, so make sure you keep up to date with all of the information through the school newsletter and the daily notices. Our Mount Aspiring College Sports Hub Facebook page is also a great place to keep an eye on upcoming sporting events and opportunities. If you ever have any questions come and see Ignacio (Head of Sport) and Claire (Sports Coordinator) in the Sports Hub (at the entrance to the gym) anytime. COMING UP THIS WEEK:

  • Good luck to our 22 MAC rowers who are heading to Twizel on Saturday, to compete at MAADI (the New Zealand Secondary School Rowing Championships). Being selected to compete at the week long MAADI regatta is an outstanding achievement for these rowers, and they can’t wait for their chance to compete against the top school age rowers from around New Zealand. Good luck team!
  • Good luck to the Senior Mixed Touch team who are heading to Christchurch this weekend to compete in the South Island Secondary School Touch Championships.
  • Good luck to our MAC sailing team who are away in Nelson this week competing at the Top of the South Regionals.
  • Good luck to our 24 MAC students who are competing in the South Island School Mountain Bike Champs at Coronet Peak next week.
  • Good luck to Josh Moody who is competing at the New Zealand Secondary School Triathlon Championships in Tauranga next week.

BASKETBALL

The Years 11-13 Central Otago Schools Senior Basketball competition will be played in Term 2. Please read the information below and complete the registration form by Friday 22 March if you are wanting to play.

What: Central Otago Schools Senior Basketball Competition

When: Monday 6 May - Monday 1 July

Time: Games are held between 5-8pm

Where: School Gyms across Central Otago

Teams involved: MAC, Wakatipu, Dunstan, Cromwell and Roxburgh

Transport: School vans and parent cars

TOPBIKE: YEARS 7/8

The annual Top Bike Competition is coming up and we’re wondering if YOU want to be involved?

Event information:

Where: Alexandra - Molyneux Netball Centre

When: Wednesday 3 April

What: Teams of 6 riders - 3 boys and 3 girls

The competition consists of three disciplines:

- Skills course

- Grass track races

- Mountain bike team time trial

This is an awesome opportunity for you to have a great day out with friends, to participate in a fun sporting competition, to get outdoors and to meet students from other schools across our region.

Please note that you will need to bring your own bike and helmet to participate in this event.

RUGBY

MAC rugby registrations are now due for all Years 9-13 players. Please visit https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/256690 to register.

MAC rugby U14/U15/Colts training will commence next Tuesday 19 March 3.45pm and thereafter, Tuesday and Thursdays 3.45pm on the MAC rugby field. Aaron, Luke, Julian and Luke look forward to seeing you there. Please bring boots and mouth guards.

MAC rugby 1st XV training continues Tuesday and Thursdays on the MAC rugby field at 4:30pm with Jason & Wayne.

MAC girls rugby training will start Monday 3.30pm on the MAC rugby field. Belinda, Luke & Roy look forward to seeing you there. Please bring boots and mouth guards.

Last Friday, 115 Years 7 and 8 students competed at the Upper Clutha Primary School Athletics Champs. The weather was fantastic and the students had a great day with some outstanding results! PHOEBE LAKER

MAC Year 11 student and Aspiring Athletes Club sprinter Phoebe Laker (15), broke three age group records at the Otago/Southland interclub athletics championships two weeks ago. She broke her own woman's 15/16 years and 17 years event records for the 400m in a new time of 57.40s, and she also set a big personal best winning the 200m in 25.92s.
