Industrial Action

Mount Maunganui College —

Wednesday 29 May 2019

As indicated in an earlier notice, due to PPTA industrial action, the school will be closed for instruction this Wednesday. The College has a small number of teachers who are not members of the PPTA, we could provide supervision for your child if you require it.

If you require supervision of your child for the day please email:

  • principal@mmc.school.nz

Any students who attend must bring their own resources as teachers can only provide supervision.

Ongoing Industrial Action

Should an acceptable offer not be forthcoming as a result of the strike, the PPTA has informed schools that further action will include “rostering home”. This means groups of students will not be taught and not be expected to be at school - all other year levels are expected to be at school.

The schedule for the rostering is as follows:

Tuesday 4 June - Year 9
Tuesday 11 June - Year 10
Tuesday 25 June -Year 11
Tuesday 2 July - Year 12

Further to this, “rolling regional strikes” are planned, with the Western Bay of Plenty scheduled strike planned for Tuesday 18 June. If this planned action does proceed it will again affect all students and the school will be closed for instruction. Once again non-PPTA members can supervise your child if you require.

As a school, we appreciate the inconvenience this action may cause. We will endeavour to keep you as best informed as we can.
