Sports Update - 11 September 2020

Kia ora koutou, Please see below for the latest Mount Maunganui College Alert Level Two Guidelines, important Sports Awards information and upcoming trial dates.

Covid-19 Alert Level 2

With three games of sport on the school fields this weekend we need to be very prescribed with how we approach it.

The games are;

  • Jr Boys Football at 9am
  • U15 Boys Rugby at 10.30am
  • First XV Rugby at 12.00pm

The guidelines for this weekend are;

  • One spectator per player
  • Sanitiser will be available outside the bathrooms
  • No spectators for the later game to enter the fenced-off area until the spectators and players from the previous game have left the field
  • No aftermatch functions to be held
  • Footballers/spectators to enter via MacVille entrance
  • Rugby players/spectators to enter via front gates
  • All spectators to record their visit via the covid-tracing app
  • If you are sick, stay home
  • Do not share drink bottles

As always, when travelling to other venues for sport, please respect local guidelines.

Waterpolo trials

Junior waterpolo trials are being held at Baywave at 7am on Wednesday 16 September and Wednesday 23 September. Please register your interest on the waterpolo page on the school website using the “Junior Registration - Term 4” button.

Volleyball trials

Junior boys trials (for competitive players) have been held and junior girls trials are Wednesday 9 September.

Skills sessions are being held at Friday lunchtime for players who trialled.

Those students who would prefer to play socially will get the opportunity to sign up early next term.

Cricket trials

Meeting Wednesday 16 September (Week 9) at lunchtime in S1 for all past, present and future cricketers. A trial will then be held Monday 12 October (Term 4, Week 1) at 3.30pm at the School Cricket Nets by the gym. Mr Golding and Russ Williams will be taking the trials.

Note; It is expected that any cricketer wanting to play for Mount Maunganui College will also play club cricket and the training load for each player will be managed appropriately.

Futsal

Those wanting to play Futsal this year please register your interest at https://www.mmc.school.nz/sports-codes-1/futsal or come to the sports office. This must be done by Friday 11 September and is for both competitive and non-competitive players.

Rip Rugby

Those wanting to play rip rugby need to come and register at the sports office. It will be played on Friday nights at Papamoa/Arataki (to be confirmed). If there are any parents who are able to support us by becoming a team manager please contact Director of Sport, Dan Meade, on danm@mmc.school.nz.

School swimming sports

School swimming sports are being held on Friday 18 September in the heated school pool for competitive swimmers only.

The competition will start at lunch and go through period 5.

The Events are - 200m Freestyle - 33m Butterfly - 100m Breaststroke - 100 Freestyle - 100m Backstroke - 133m Medley.

Sports awards applications have opened

Applications for Sports Awards are now open. Application forms can be found under the Sports tab on the school website.

Please fill in the form if you wish to submit information regarding a student's sporting achievement/s from October 2019 through to October 2020.

This may be for either individual, team and/or representative sports and will assist Mount Maunganui College in acknowledging students achievements.

Special Awards

  • Senior Sports Boy
  • Senior Sports Girl
  • Junior Sports Boy
  • Junior Sports Girl
  • Sports Team of the Year
  • Contribution to Sport within the Community
  • Contribution to Sport at School
  • Most Outstanding Sporting Achievement Female
  • Most Outstanding Sporting Achievement Male

You will also need to fill out this form if you wish to be considered for Principal and Crimson Awards.

Consideration for Principal, Crimson and Special Awards will only be on applications received.

Criteria for these awards are;

Principal’s Award

These are awarded to students who have:

  • broken a school record
  • been selected in a regional representative team at U16 or above
  • been selected in a Tauranga representative team in the oldest age group
  • been selected in a national squad, development team or tournament team in the current year
  • 1st place in BOP individual secondary school event or have gained a significant placing in a national individual secondary school event.

Crimson Award

This is our highest sporting award. These are awarded to students who have been selected in a New Zealand team or have achieved a top three placing in a national sporting event.

Applications close on Friday 18 September 5pm.
