Outstanding Sports Uniforms
Any students who still have a school sports uniform that needs to be returned please do so to the front office between Monday 14th and Wednesday 16th December. Please make sure a note is attached with your child’s name clearly marked. Students who fail to return playing uniforms will be charged a replacement fee.
Futsal
The sport of Futsal continues to grow in popularity with Mount Maunganui College turning out 10 teams this term. Teams range from social to competitive and all enjoy the Sunday league.
Special mention must go to our Senior A Girls team who won their final match 5-1 against Tauranga Girls College to finish top of the league.
Junior North Island Volleyball
Five junior teams took part in the North Island Junior Volleyball Championships held in Tauranga and the Mount recently. Special mention to the Junior A boys who came second in the North Island in a close-fought final against Tauranga Boys College.
- Junior B Boys finished 5th in Division 3
- Junior C Girls finished 1st in their pool within the Division 3, second-tier competition
- Junior B Girls finished 1st in their pool within Division 3
- Junior A Girls finished 2nd in Division 2
Beach Volleyball
We had a great showing at the Bay of Plenty Junior Secondary Beach Volleyball Championships with a number of boys and girls teams entered.
Kameo Wagner and Jackson Herrick finished second overall with Kaia Berridge and Kylan Scholman taking home the Bronze medal.
The top teams from this tournament went on to the North Island Championships with Kylan and Kaia taking home the silver medal.
Waterpolo
Two junior teams travelled to Auckland in late November to compete in the North Island Junior Championships. The teams came away with some really positive results and some great development.
Mauao Tournament
Mount Maunganui College recently hosted the inaugural Mauao tournament where Year 5 and 6s from five local schools travelled to compete in five different sports. The purpose was to connect our community through sport and it was a great chance to have our Sports Performance students demonstrate leadership skills through the organisation of the tournament and refereeing.
NZSS Athletics
Best of luck to our 15 athletes who head off this weekend to the New Zealand Secondary School Athletics Championships held at the Tauranga Domain.
Cricket vs Katikati
It has been great to see the recent resurgence of cricket here at school and our Junior Cricket team beat Katikati in a recent match held at Mount College. Gust Tustin topped the scoring with the bat while Tyler Perry picked up four wickets.
Sevens
Congratulations to Payton Takimoana who was selected in the New Zealand Maori Under 18 7s team. Great to see her hard work and commitment paying off.
Basketball
Tia Lassey is the most recent Mount Maunganui College student recognised at a national level within Basketball. She was included in the Junior Tall Ferns squad alongside Senior A teammate, Melika Samia.
Seth Whinney of the Junior A team was named in the New Zealand Under 15 team.
Congratulations to all.
School Sport NZ Coaching Advisory Group
School Sport New Zealand were offering a fantastic leadership opportunity for two students (with at least one of these to be from the Auckland Region) to be part of a Coaching Advisory Group. Out of 120 nominees, Year 12 student, Maia Horlock, was selected to be a part of the group. Maia will be involved in a combination of online and face to face meetings throughout 2021 with the purpose of providing student voice in the coach and player development space.
This is a massive achievement and well-deserved recognition for all the hard work and contribution to coaching that Maia has been involved in over the last two years.
