Alastair Sinton - Principal —

I would like to open this newsletter by expressing my sincere thanks to every family that has taken the time to connect with us over the last few weeks. In early March we ran our first information evening where the senior leadership team outlined how we manage and develop some important areas of our school that are of interest to families. The feedback we have received from those who attended was very positive and will help us shape this event moving forward so we can make it even more relevant.

Last week we held our school interviews which is the first opportunity for our families and teachers to meet face to face. School - home relationships are critical to student success, and it is important to remain involved in your child's education, even when they seem to have it under control.

Our term one theme of 'Wellbeing' has continued through our assemblies. We have made sure all students are aware of who the important staff members are around the school that can support them if required. Year groups also heard from our student leaders who were open and courageous enough to share their own stories of how they maintain their wellbeing in spite of the challenges they have faced and continue to face, and last week we had a visit from Attitude. Attitude is a group who visit schools to help contextualise wellbeing for adolescents and share important age-appropriate messages. As we move through the year and our themes change it is essential we keep wellbeing at the forefront of what we do.

I would also like to acknowledge all our students who are helping shape the culture of our school by contributing to our co-curricular programme. Engaging in prosocial activities like culture groups, performing arts and sports teams helps teenagers to feel part of their community, connected with others and develops a sense of wellbeing. It is a busy time of year with 'Lip Sync', summer tournament as well as plenty of other events on the go. There will continue to be many opportunities for students to get involved as the year progresses.
