Sports Update - 25 September 2020

Dan Meade —

Kia ora koutou,

Thanks so much for your support with our Covid Level 2 Guidelines. I know it’s frustrating not being able to see our teams play but as a school we’re very happy with how the process was managed and the message sent to the students and community in terms of care and safety.

We are very grateful to now be at Level 1!

SCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS

Due to the interruptions of Covid-19 school swimming sports this year was slightly different with a reduced number of events. Despite this the standard was still extremely high with six school records broken. SUMMER SPORTS

Rip Rugby
Rip rugby is a non-contact version of 7s and is growing in popularity. We’ve had some good interest from students wanting to play in Term 4 but need a few more to ensure we’ve got enough to make a third team (otherwise we’ll have two huge teams). If your child is interested in playing please email us on sports@mmc.school.nz.

Games are played on Friday afternoons / evenings at Gordon Spratt Reserve.

Cricket trials

A trial will then be held Monday 12 October (Term 4, Week 1) at 3.30pm at the School Cricket Nets by the gym. Mr Golding and Russ Williams will be taking the trials.

Note: It is expected that any cricketer wanting to play for Mount Maunganui College will also play club cricket and the training load for each player will be managed appropriately.

For more information please contact Mr Golding by email mattg@mmc.school.nz

Volleyball
Trials for competitive junior volleyball have been held and it was great to see a huge amount of interest.

We are now taking registrations for social volleyball. Get a group of friends together and come to the Sports Office. Juniors play on a Tuesday evening and seniors on a Thursday evening.

7s Rugby

Those keen on playing 7s rugby this summer need to see Mr Waretini-Thomas ASAP if they haven’t already done so.

Futsal
Futsal registrations have now closed.

Waterpolo
Waterpolo registrations have now closed
