Johnelle De La Haye —

Kia ora e te whānau o te kura tuatahi o Mauao!

Mahuru Māori: Due to our Poseidon Production occurring in Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, we have decided to have a ‘Mahuru Māori’ - Māori Language MONTH at MMPS, lasting all of September!

We kicked off our Mahuru Māori month with a Te Reo scavenger hunt around the school.  The playground was a buzz with tamariki scouring high and low for all the hidden clues. All entries go into a prize draw with winners to be announced soon! Along with activities happening in our classrooms we will also be having fun creating chalk art next week, having a house haka competition and finally our kapahaka will perform for us in the final week of term.

Further to this, if you have any knowledge/skills/expertise you would like to share with our tamariki, please get in touch with me (johnelled@mtprimary.school.nz or emmac@mtprimary.school.nz ) or your child’s classroom teacher - we would love to have you supporting our school in our Te Reo journey.

Kia ora e te whānau o te kura tuatahi o Mauao!

Mahuru Māori: Following on from our Week 1 Mahuru Māori Scavenger Hunt, last week we had a chalk art day. Tamariki decorated the concrete all around the kura with kupu Māori or whakataukī or kōwhaiwhai patterns at break times. It was awesome to see the beautiful artwork popping up, and to hear the korero happening around the school as they showed mahitahitanga creating their works of art. Have a look at some of the photos attached. We are very much looking forward to our school wide haka competition in the last week of school too!
