Here I am at....camp Omaka

Aleksandra & Aimee —

Day One

It was just last week that we came to school ready to face camp. With a mountain of luggage and excited faces, we set of for Omaka Scout camp. We had be traveling for just 30 minutes when we turned down the drive where Omaka Scout camp was awaiting our arrival. We set up our cooking stations and were finally able to start pitching our tents. It took a good hour for everyone’s tent to be up and sleepable. We had just settled down chatting when the great whistle blew and were off on ‘the Amazing Race’. It took most of the afternoon and we had all been feasted on by the mosquitoes. It was time for ‘Masterchef’, the greatest compition of all at camp. We prepared and cooked our food and then started to plate up. The master judge, Mrs Vesper, was walking around tasting all of our foods (the winners are written down below). We all waited till dark to start playing spotlight. It lasted three rounds and was great fun with people hiding in every nook and cranny. We all settled down in our tents and fell asleep after the busy day.

Day two

It was a slow rise for each student, having just spent the night talking till ungodly hours. They slowly woke and began to create their breakfast on their cookers. Straight after, everyone walked to the Gryones. When we arrived after twenty five minutes of walking. We scattered and ran one of the two orienteering courses, heavily coated in sunblock and insect repellent. Lunch came after we walked back from the Groynes and the students were eager to begin the most anticipated event, sailing. We were taught by great instructors and quickly got the hang of it. We had so much fun turning and learning to catch the gusts of wind, but it took a while to do a loop of Lake Rua because the wind came in different directions and wasn’t very strong that evening. At the end, the classes were off sailing a relay in the sailing boats. Though today was intense, we quickly calmed down for our second dinner and got ready for bed.

Day Three

Another morning of tired faces greeted day three of our Omaka Scout Camp experience. It was sad to see camp come and go in a flash. The breakfast allowed us to gain some energy to actually pack for our departure back to school to greet our parents. A dozen or more tents were torn down and being folded, groans of annoyance sounded around as the tents barely managed to fit in their bags. As rewards for our terribly hard work, the camp parents handed out sausages and soon enough we were back on the road with Monkey Money for the student auction. Back at school the auction went fast with some groups having hundreds to spend and others just having dollars. We loved camp this year. T@TT camps are always amazing, but tenting, cooking and spending so much time outdoors, really is amazing!
