From our Deputy Principal
It’s time to celebrate! What an amazing few weeks it has been for our school community with outstanding successes which continue to inspire us.
Firstly, we must celebrate the extraordinary efforts and performance of this year’s production of Evita. This renowned musical, has successfully captivated audiences for years - the Mountainview High production was no exception. Stand out features were the remarkable cast who portrayed the complex characters associated with the story of Eva Perón. No less impressive were the musicians who presented a complicated score, blending the Latin rhythms and emotional ballads to convey the passion, ambition and heartache of the characters. Ms Smith and Mr Duncan took on a huge challenge with this production and proved the excellent results of very hard work, long hours and a team of dedicated students and helpers. Congratulations to all involved.
This week sees the end of another Winter Tournament week, which allowed our sporting students the opportunity to participate in their chosen sports against teams from across New Zealand. Our teams were spread from Invercargill to Blenheim and students, teachers and whanau enjoyed the competition and the great spring weather. Many thanks must be given to the coaches, managers and supporters who provide the leadership and encouragement for our young people to develop and enjoy the benefits of these pursuits.
Coming up shortly on the 9th and 16th of September are the Flava Festival and the Waitaha Secondary Kapa Haka competitions where Mounties will again have a chance to celebrate their skills and performance - we wish them every success.
On a more serious note, next week is the Senior Assessment week where Year 11, 12 and 13 students will sit practice examinations for the subjects tested externally in November. Please encourage your child / children to revise carefully and give a determined effort to each of their tests, as this will provide them with accurate information about the required study between now and the final exams. This will be crucial for all students, particularly those seeking endorsement gradings. For those who only have a few tests, this is an ideal time to catch up on any standards not yet completed and meet with their teachers for extra assistance.
The 19th and the 22nd of September provide an opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet with subject teachers in our Parent/Caregiver / Teacher interview slots. Please take advantage of these times by booking an interview via the School Interviews system (see article in this newsletter for the link).
Subject Selections for senior classes in 2024 should now be completed by all students in Year 10 /11 and 12. This will enable our Timetable staff to start constructing the timetable for next year. Please check that your child has done this, or if not returning to school, please inform either the front office staff or the AKO teacher.
What a busy term it has been. Many thanks to all of our staff who work tirelessly to enable all of these learning experiences to occur. Good luck to all of the students sitting their tests next week, and continue to make the last two weeks before the holidays count.
It is the work that you put in now which will reap the benefits for your future.
