Moana News

Catherine Smith —

Mighty Moana made a splash at the start of this year!

At the helm this year is Shaquana Faolua and Merric Manson as our Whanau leaders.  They have been a huge support to our whanau in our first large events of the year. Their first responsibility was working with our senior Peer Support students at our Peer Support Leadership day. The students found it beneficial spending time in our whanau together and there were a lot of laughs when Mr. Martin played “Detective Dog.”

Moana Peer Support then took those skills learnt at the leadership day and applied them to our Year 9 Moana Orientation. We were pleased to see our leaders showing resilience as they adapted our orientation to the restraints of both Covid and the weather. We enjoyed a lot of laughs and whanaungatanga over these days, in our usual Moana spirit.

Last week Moana competed in our school Athletics Day - nearly ‘taking out’ Mr. Alawi with a gumboot during the gumboot throw!

Well done to all for the mahi and adaptability our Moana staff and students continue to show at the start of a busy year!
