Moana Year 9 Orientation

Moana Whānau Leader —

Moana whānau were excited to welcome two new year nine classes into the fold. Moana whānau enjoyed the Thursday day time on site, with peer support students in the lead assisting to get students used to our school grounds and the new faces in their whānau.

In the afternoon Moana students and staff ran their famous Quiz afternoon, where we also hosted Whenua and Hiwi in rotation.

Friday was where the Moana fun began, starting with a hearty famous Moana brekkie, a beautiful korero with Whaea Iri on the importance of Moana to the people. We all set off for a hot day in the sun at Caroline Bay, with students discovering a message in the bottle in the sand leading them on an exciting shipwreck themed treasure hunt. Students showed whanaungatanga and perseverance in the heat to conquer all the clues.

The day wouldn’t be complete without some cooling off with ice blocks, sliding down the hydroslides at Caroline Bay with a picnic in the shade! A great day had by all, and a wonderful day to get to know the new faces who are now part of our whanau. A special thanks to our fantastic senior students who are peer support this year you are such an asset to our whānau!
