Online Hangout with William Pike

Meagan Kelly —

The 2017 William Pike Challenge group had the opportunity to connect with William himself via video conferencing today.

MPS was selected to trial the new Google Hangout video conference feature today, with William Pike sharing his dramatic story with seven of the Challenge Award students.

Through some minor technical difficulties, the students heard about William's journey from Year 6 teacher and weekend warrior, to being a trapped in a hut high on Mt Ruapehu after it erupted.

After a long wait, he was rescued. Not having expected to make it through the night, William was feeling grateful and relieved. However, the next challenge was the news that his right leg would need to be amputated.
