A team of 21 athletes representing not only Mt Pleasant School but also the SE Zone, headed down south to Ashburton on Wednesday 06 December to compete in the Canterbury Primary Schools Athletics Champs.

There were 2108 athletes from 187 schools present at the event, which made for plenty of fierce competition. I was extremely pleased with the way in which our athletes responded to the challenge and they should all be very proud of their achievements.

There were several stand-out performances, however, it was hard to look past Caleb S winning the 12yrs boys 60m sprint final. This was particularly special for him as he is carrying some niggles and it was also the fourth time in a row he has been able to defend this title. Also, the 11yrs girls 4 x 100m relay team (Lucy S, Neve B, Yza M and Olivia F) came third in their final. Another impressive individual performance was Fynn H’s fourth place in the 10yrs boys 1000m race.

A huge thank you to all of the supportive parents who kindly transported the students and provided plenty of encouragement throughout the day.
