Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival Orchestra
Hi! I’m Jasmine from Room 7, and I got into the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival Orchestra. I’m sure one other in Mount Pleasant School got into the orchestra with me.
Sure, it was incredibly nerve-racking and exciting; I had to play part of a song, a scale, and sight read.
I really hated the sight reading; I’m not too great at it.
The auditions were being held at Elmwood School on Friday. I entered a practice room, and then after about, say, five minutes, I went into the actual audition place. There was a lady waiting there; she was the one that had called me.
I was completely terrified; thoughts darted through my head. What if I mess up? What if I completely fail?
The violin just slid into my hands and shoulder, and I started to play Humoresque by Antonín Dvořák. I just did it.
Things went well and she stopped me at the time limit. I felt pretty OK.
Then she had me do a scale.
I did the B flat major scale for all the music people out there that know. Erm.. I think it was pretty good as well!
Sight reading. We moved on to sight reading! I forgot about it. I don’t think I did as well in sight reading.
Well a bonus from all of that was I got to miss swimming.
About a few weeks later, my mother received an email. It said..
Your child Jasmine has successfully earned a place in the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival Orchestra.
And I was really, really happy that all of the practice and nerve-racking bits paid off.
