Breaking News...

Principal for the Day —

Week 2, and the winter break seems a distant memory already. Term 3 is a very busy term, we've kicked off with with Whanau Conferences, winter tournament for the Years 5-8, and Strum, Strike & Blow for our ukulele aficionados.

In April, the Minister of Education announced the formation of a new Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning) in our area comprising of Heathcote Valley School, Our Lady Star of the Sea School, Sumner School, Linwood College, Mount Pleasant School and Redcliffs Schools.

We are very pleased to announce that our Kāhui Ako will be known as Aupaki. This beautiful ingoa (name) has been gifted to us by mana whenua and has the approval of local rūnanga. Aupaki translates to ‘sloping hillside’ which is a geographical feature that all of the schools in our Kāhui Ako have a natural affinity for. The words Au (meaning wave) and Paki (meaning crashing) also recognise the importance of the ocean and inland waterways that connect our kura.

We are very excited about the rich opportunities that lay ahead for the Aupaki Kāhui Ako. At the heart of this will be the development of a strong educational pathway for our tamariki from early childhood through to secondary school and beyond. We very much look forward to collaborating with our staff, whānau and learners for many years to come.

Parent Teacher Conferences

A big thank you for your support in collecting children early from school on Thursday on our first day of our Whanau Conferences.  We appreciate this can be a juggling act, especially on the heels of a school holiday break.

As you know, these conferences are a continuation from the ones held in Term 1 and will report your child’s progress towards meeting the goals set, as well as providing the National Standards mid-year report for Years 4-8 (students in Years 1-3 have anniversary reports based around their starting dates).

Just a reminder: Whanau Conferences continue next week with 2:00pm finishes on Tuesday the 8th of August and Thursday the 10th of August.

School Photos

Class and individual photos have been taken this week, with a few catch up and sibling photos to take place on Monday.  It was great to see students looking polished ready to shine in their pictures. We would also like to acknowledge the time and energy poured into the taking of these by Marty & Clare.  Donating their time & talent to not only produce amazing pictures but also to raise money for our school is priceless.  Thank you Marty & Clare!

Road Safety Reminder

At the risk of sounding like a broken record... two weeks into term three and we have already had a near-miss outside school.  Please, please be mindful of our children, we would hate for someone to be hit by a car and break a leg...or something.

Policy Review

We only have one policy for review by parents this term - Students with Special Needs/Learning Support.

At Mt Pleasant School, we keep all our policies and procedures online on SchoolDocs. This ensures easy access to our policies and procedures for parents and also allows for their easy review.

Follow this link to find out more information on Policy Review.

At long last we have had a whole week seeing the sun every day.  The grounds are drying out for our children, with the forecast promising a weekend of sunshine ahead, it's going to be a great weekend!
