2023 SE Zone Winter Tournament

Royce Madigan —

The SE Zone Winter Tournament was held this Tuesday at various locations around South Hagley Park and Ngā Puna Wai.

Approximately ten schools took part in the tournament, which made for some quality match-ups. We had a little over 100 students compete in the event and were able to enter maximum sides in the various sports (football, hockey, netball and rugby). This was only made possible thanks to the number of wonderful parent volunteers and keen players.

The weather was simply stunning on the day for our winter codes. It is fairly rare to such conditions down at Hagley Park, so we were very grateful. The games were modified and extremely fast-paced with many lasting for 10mins in total. I was most impressed with the skills on display, the way in which our teams conducted themselves and the high level of pride displayed in representing Mt Pleasant School.

At the end of the day, we have several sides come close to qualifying to compete at the next level of competition, however, it was just the one team this year successfully qualifying – the Yr 7/ 8 A hockey side. They will compete at the Canterbury Winter Tournament, which will take place on Thursday 14 September (Week 9) with more information to come.

Once again, I would like to thank those wonderful parents who kindly made sacrifices to help out on the day. Without your continued support this opportunity would not have been possible.
