On Point Orienteering
A huge congratulations to all the runners that came to the Canterbury Schools Orienteering Festival this weekend!
The idea of heading out on a course with a map into the “unknown” all by yourself, or with a friend, like our team all did this weekend, could actually by really scary, especially when you are 12 years old and under. Not many of us parents would have been doing that when we were kids I’ll bet.
All of the MPs entrants got out there and gave it a go, leaving the start area with some nerves but in really good spirits and they all got around their various courses to the finish. This, in my book, is an incredible achievement worth celebrating regardless of where they placed or how many mistakes were made along the way. The courage shown by all our runners this weekend was just next level and I am really proud of them all.
Mt Pleasant School got the following results:
Year 7/8 Mt Pleasant 1 were 1st
Year 7/8 Mt Pleasant 2 were 4th =
Year 6 & Under Boys were 1st =
Year 6 and Under Girls were 3rd
If you’re keen to get into orienteering then keep an eye on the PAPO upcoming events. You don’t have to be a member to take part and it’s a good opportunity for the whole family to have a go.

Hope to see you out amongst it.
