The Great Kiwi Hall Trip

Room 1 & 2 —

Last Wednesday, Rooms 1 and 2 traveled to 3 different schools (Thorrington, Cashmere and Lyttleton) to explore their school halls on “The Great Kiwi Hall Trip”.

This was our provocation for our new inquiry into “People in a community can cooperate to achieve a shared goal”. We are focusing on the people who work together to build a school hall as our own school embarks on this process. Many children from Rooms 1 and 2 had never been in a school hall before and didn’t know what it is used for.

Each child was given a specific role and task at each school. We had architects, builders, operation managers, photographers, exterior and interior designers exploring each hall. We learnt that halls are used for many different things - sport, PMP, assembly, drama, choir, kapa haha and special groups. We also learnt that halls can look very different at different schools. Rooms 1 and 2 are looking forward to now having a go at designing our own school hall.
