Our Learning: Where we are in Place and Time

Team at The Top —

Human exploration, migration and journeys have shaped us

This term Team at The Top has been learning through the transdisciplinary theme of "Where we are in Place and Time".

Transdisciplinary Theme:

An inquiry into orientation in place and time; personal histories; homes and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives.

Using the central idea of 'Human exploration, migration and journeys have shaped us', an inquiry into personal histories, homes and journeys, discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind.   We used the concepts of Connection, Change and Function to guide our thinking and inquiring.

We have been exploring these lines of inquiry:

  • Tools and technologies have played a significant role throughout history. (Function)
  • Historical sources highlight relationships between individuals and civilisations. (Connection)
  • Places and environments have been shaped by geographic influences. (Change)

History has been the focus of learning in T@TT this term, in particular, we have been learning about Pre-European Aotearoa. This unit of inquiry has focussed on learning about our cultural narrative; to build knowledge of the local area, grow cultural understanding and provoke questions specifically around Mt Pleasant/Tau Hinu Korokio.

As part of our learning, we have made individual websites as a place where we can share our new knowledge with our whānau. These websites are a place where we will share a range of mahi and will continue to be added to throughout ngā ākonga time in T@TT.
