Coding Club

by Lisa Chubb —

Mt Pleasant Code Club was launched for the first time this term.

It runs from 8-9am each Wednesday morning and will continue in Term Three with a new group of keen coders. This term the students have been trying out a variety of resources purchased with some money from our fabulous PTA.

These activities will become more widely available to other students at our school after they have been trialled. This term the students in code club have learnt how to do computer programming using Scratch and Java Script for the more advanced. They have had a lot of fun programming a micro:bit which has flashing LED lights, and our robots called “Dash and Dot”. Next week they will meet another robot called “mBot”.

We have three facilitators at Code Club, Lisa Chubb and Kellen Gillstrom, who are both teachers and Jonathan Hunt who is a computer programmer and parent at our school. Mt Pleasant Code Club is part of a National coding club called Code Club Aotearoa.
