Nordy Words

Chris Nord —

Dia duit... in this article, we share a new school management system which will improve the reporting of student progress, update you on the progress of the mains water replacements happening around our school and the impact on our traffic flow, celebrate taking over the Bay Harbour News this week, update you on the progress of the building project planned for Mt Pleasant School and finally, a reminder of our upcoming Art Exhibition later this term.

New Student Management System

As a school, we are continually trying to find ways to improve our systems of communicating with our students and whānau. As part of this, we made a decision to change our School Management System to Linc-ED

There are many facets to this platform. The day-to-day administration of the school, financial records and invoicing, and reporting progress to our students and whanau. As part of this, we have already started the implementation with internal systems being put in place to support this transition. We went live this week with within school day-to-day administration like attendance and school-wide notices and communication. In the upcoming weeks, we will start to implement the next phase which will include wider community communication and invoicing for school activities to parents.

As part of this, we will be sending out an email detailing the process involved in creating your whānau account that will become increasingly important as we begin to share learning and reporting progress over time on this platform. For now, setting up your account is all you need to be aware of and we will share more regarding future developments in the months ahead.

Roadworks

Those of you who drop students to school, especially on the Cannon Hill side of the school, will have noticed the closure of Michael Avenue and the one-way system up and around Cannon Hill. We are pleased to let you know that they are ahead of schedule and will be crossing over into Cannon Hill from Michael Avenue on Monday morning. This will mean significant interruption to traffic flow. The entire school site will be closed off on the Cannon Hill Cres side. There will be no access both in and out of the school. This will continue for the entire time the work down Cannon Hill Cres is being completed (we hope for 4-5 days only). We highly recommend using Freeman Street as your alternative pick-up or drop-off spot or use the two-minute drop off zone which will be extended from the downhill side of Major Hornbrook Road to the bust stop. For a full summary of the works to be completed around Mt Pleasant you can view this article.

These are our people today...

You may have noticed we took over the Bay Harbour News this week. We had our very own Simon Hillyer starring for his efforts to improve parking outside the school on Major Hornbrook Road and surrounds. It was impressive that he made the front page. We also had an article featuring the Boy's Baking Club, promoting this initiative which has become part of the institution at MPS. In addition to these two articles, we also had a Year 8 Exhibition group make it in around the predator free initiative in MPS and wider community. As part of their work, they have created some action to actually make a difference and get involved. Well done to all those students and staff involved in making Mt Pleasant School a MAGIC place to be!

New Build Progress

I occasionally get asked how the planning for our new build is proceeding. We held community consultation with our school and wider community earlier in the year and received all the feedback around this. Since then we have been steadily working in the background to progress this project. Later in this newsletter, our Board Chair Carl Sara gives a brief overview and update to the development and how we are progressing towards our target start date early in 2019. There are even a few rendering pictures to give you a little taster of how this will look.

Mt Pleasant Art Exhibition

Finally, one of the biggest fundraisers of the the year held by our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is the Mt Pleasant Art Exhibition. For those who are new to our school, this event combines students art with other outside artists all in one big extravaganza. This will be held at the Mt Pleasant Community Center on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd of September. You can catch up on all the news around this event by viewing THIS article, by subscribing to the @mtpleasantartex Facebook page or by buying tickets for the Gala Event on Eventbrite HERE.
