SE Zone Winter Tournament

Jeremy Griffiths —

The SE Zone Winter Tournament was held this Wednesday at various locations around South Hagley Park.  The games were modified and extremely fast-paced with many lasting just 10 mins in total. At the end of the day, five teams successfully qualified to compete at the next level of competition.

Approximately ten schools took part in the tournament, which made for some quality match-ups. After initially being postponed the week earlier, conditions were almost ideal on the day for our winter codes. We were able to enter maximum sides in the various sports (football, hockey, netball and rugby) thanks to both the number of volunteers and keen players.

The games were modified and extremely fast-paced with many lasting just 10mins in total. I was most impressed with the skills on display, the way in which our teams conducted themselves and the high level of pride shown in representing Mt Pleasant School.

At the end of the day, five teams successfully qualified to compete at the next level of competition – the Canterbury Winter Tournament. They were as follows: Yr 5/6 A football team, Yr 5/6 A hockey team, Yr 7/8 A football team, Yr 7/8 A and B hockey teams. This event will take place on Thursday 24 August (Week 5) with more information to come.

Once again, I would like to thank those wonderful parents who kindly made sacrifices to help out on the day. Without your continued support this opportunity would not have been possible.
