Ben Gorst ~ Parent Representative
Arriving from the UK in 2003, I quickly made New Zealand home and was fortunate enough meet my wonderful wife Kate in 2007. I am the father to two boys, Louie who is 7 and in year 2 at Mt Pleasant and Monty who is 4 and will start at Mt Pleasant in 2023.
For the last 5 years I have been the Managing Director of local business here in Canterbury and prior to that held the General Mangers position for 6 years. Our team is made up of 15 staff across 2 businesses which supplies hire services to the construction and event industry.
Our business is culture centric, ensuring that our customers have a safe and secure solution for their site whilst our staff have a safe, enjoyable and inclusive place to work where they can thrive. I see myself as the current guardian of this long-established business and hope to leave a mark on it during my time here.
The same would apply to my role on the Board, having a love for the community and this wonderful school, has motivated me to apply for the position. I hope to draw on my experience in the construction industry, as a leader and as a rugby coach and further my governance skills.
I want to maintain and build on the hard work that has been done to create this exceptional facility. At the same time being privy to the decisions which create the optimal learning environment for our children and a safe and enjoyable place for the staff and our community.
