Cantamath 2018

Jeremy Griffiths —

On Wednesday 22 August we sent two teams along to compete at the annual Cantamath competition held at the Horncastle Arena.

Cantamath is a mathematics competition for years 6 to 10 students across a large number schools within Canterbury. In the Team Competition section, teams of four work furiously to answer as many of the 20 problem-solving questions as possible within 30 minutes.

The Yr 7 team consisted of: Phoebe H, Hannah W, Sophie C and Nina H. The Yr 8 team consisted of: Amiee G, Louis V, Mathew B and Felix H.

There were a huge number of competing schools at the event and both Mt. Pleasant teams represented us with a great deal of pride. Both performed admirably amongst some exceptional mathematicians and were rewarded with satisfying results.

This year we also had a bumper number of entries in the Exhibition section. Eight students completed tasks within the Yr 6 competition and one within the Yr 7 section. A special congratulations to Adam M and George M (pictured) who both achieved Highly Commended awards for their outstanding entries in the ‘Build A Bridge’ task.

Way to go!
