Big Day on the Hill

Marty Anderson —

Big Day on the Hill is fast approaching and will be held on Saturday 25 February 2017

This is a great opportunity to celebrate our community, have some fun and celebrate near to the time of the Feb 22 earthquake anniversary.

This is not a fundraising activity.  It is a FREE event, and open to everyone.  It is funded, however, by a PTA grant and from your donations! So please give generously when the bucket comes around. You may also drop your donation into the school office.  It costs about $5K to run this event so every cent counts!

As this is a VOLUNTEER run event ... we NEED you!  Even just for 1 hour on the day.   We also require help in setting up on Friday and packing up on the Monday.  We also need 8 -10 people to erect 3 marquees on Saturday morning at 8am.  We have approximately  35 volunteer hours to cover on the day... plus some either side!  Anything you can do to help would be hugely appreciated.

Sign up for volunteering on the sheet in the school office now so we can run a SAFE and FUN event!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ...

WATER SLIDE:  Will be running from 2pm onwards. Please note the only changing facilities available will be the school pool change rooms.  Use the slide at your own risk and follow all directions displayed, and instructions from the supervisors.

POOL:  This will be open through until 10pm and all users must follow the pool rules and guidelines. Children under 7 need to be actively supervised by a person over the age of 16 who can administer immediate help.  Children 8-15 must be supervised by a person at least 16 years old.  All users must follow the instructions of the supervisor at all times. There will be one volunteer adult over-seeing the pool area.

CAMPING:  You are able to camp behind the big screen, and adjacent to the courts in designated areas. This is an annual tradition that started on February 22, 2011.  All children under the age of 18, must be camping with an adult who is responsible for their actions overnight.  Campers may park their cars onsite in designated areas.

SCOOTER RACES:  These will be held at approximately 2pm.   They will involve time trials in different age groups.  All racers must have helmets, and are responsible for the condition of their scooter. Winners of each age group will receive prizes donated by local businesses.

FOOD VENDORS:  We have a range of food vendors, including Pizza Carto, Pure Pulp juices, Crazy Spud Potato, Hapi Pops (new popsicles from Heathcote) and Gelato. Bring cash - it is simpler for them, and faster for you!

MOVIES:  The two movies on the giant screen will be the BFG and HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE.  They will run at approximately 6:00pm and 8:00pm respectively, and are both rated PG.  Please make your own call as to what your children watch!

WHAT TO BRING...

Sunshelters, sun screen, togs, towel, CASH ... seats, tent/camper if camping... and your mates.

There will be a variety of non-alcoholic beverages available.  BYO any other liquid refreshments you want.
